Executive Headmaster – Mr Ansur
FROM THE DESK OF THE EXECUTIVE HEADMASTER
As salaamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatahu
Peace and blessings on you and may the Mercy and Blessings of the Almighty descend upon you
Welcome to the website of the Orient Islamic School.
Established as a state-aided school with an Islamic ethos in 1959, Orient Islamic School has over the past six decades developed a proud reputation as an educational institution that offers quality holistic education for children from Grade RR all the way to Grade 12.
In 1998, after the promulgation of the South African Schools’ Act of 1996 which abolished the state aided model, the owners of the school buildings, the Orient Islamic Educational Institute were faced with the choice of either handing the school over to the state or to establish an independent school on its premises. As one of the founding principles of the Institute was to ensure that the school maintained its Islamic ethos, the decision was taken to opt for independence.
Blessed with a committed set of educators, the school has particularly in the past two decades set an excellent academic standard averaging a pass rate of 99% in the Senior Certificate examinations with many of our candidates featuring among the top achievers in the province. One of the reasons for our success has been the excellent grounding that our learners receive in the Foundation and Primary Phases.
The Board of Governors has over the years ensured that the school facilities and infrastructure are continually upgraded to ensure that our learners have an optimal learning educational environment. The refurbishment of our Life Sciences and Physical Sciences laboratories in the past two years have been undertaken at considerable cost with the generous contributions of donor families and we are now blessed with 21st century state-of-art facilities to teach the sciences. Similarly, a huge investment has been made in the IT infrastructure at the school with fibre optic cables providing high-speed internet access to virtually every classroom on the campus.
The ease with which the school migrated to online learning during the Covid 19 lockdown is largely due to the quality of our IT infrastructure as well as the ongoing professional development of our teachers in the use of digital learning.
With our focus on holistic education covering academics, sport, spiritual development and community involvement, we are confident that learners at Orient will leave our institution with the necessary skills and values to make a meaningful contribution to the community and the nation.
